Every Thursday, I publish a post containing photo(s) taken from above or below, and invite you to join in the challenge by posting your own photos with an up or down perspective.

Last weekend I was back in Marseille – just a short break with my daughter before she returned to university. We both fancied a bit of sun before summer vanishes for another year, and I had been itching to get back to Marseille after my trip last May. I had particularly wanted to visit the strikingly beautiful Mucem, which although looking stunning last May wasn’t open to the public; I was just a few days too early.
One of the first things we did was a relaxing boat trip out to the Calanques. I’ll show you some of the natural beauty in a future post, but for now here are views of the Mucem museum complex from sea level.
First of all, the beautiful latticework of the new building on the old J4 pier, the location that has welcomed newcomers to Marseille over the years.
And then the Fort Saint-Jean, part of which dates back to the 12th century, and is linked to the J4 by a suspended footbridge.
Next week, I’ll take you to the roof and show you the views back down.

Welcome to week 56 and a huge thank you as always to those who entered last week. It was another week of huge variety and some great views. My favourites, I think, were the shot of Carol‘s spellbound great nephew and tgeriatrix‘s clever and dizzy lighthouse shot. You can see all of the entries from this and previous weeks on my Pinterest board if you have missed any.
All are welcome; do please share your up or down perspective with us. Simply create your own post as normal, create a link to this challenge and then click here to enter your link and to view other entries. If you have any difficulties with the linky, please just leave your link in a comment below and I will upload your thumbnail.
Finally, please don’t forget to go and visit the other challengers and pass on your views and encouragement.
To find out more about how to enter, click here. The linky list will open each Thursday at 00:01 GMT (or a bit before) and will be open for a week.

Oh, yes please, Debbie! I remember you posting about it before. It looks a super place. 🙂

The area as a whole is great for a visit – gritty city in Marseille, beautiful coastline, wonderful Provence, great food and wine, roman remains, ….
