Naked Torso arrives at Selfridges

-Look Up, Look Down Challenge, Week 59

Every Thursday, I publish a post containing photo(s) taken from above or below, and invite you to join in the challenge by posting your own photos with an up or down perspective.

Every now and then, Selfridges on London’s Oxford Street excels itself with a temporary exhibit above their magnificent doorway and the Queen of Time clock has to take a back seat for a little while.

The current exhibit is a massive naked torso of Californian designer Rick Owens.

The polystyrene sculpture was designed by the British sculptor Doug Jennings and stands 25 feet tall.  Owens’ long hair hangs loose and blows in the wind and his right hand clutches a huge torch that actually burns.

The statue is part of “The World of Rick Owens”, a new collaboration between Rick Owens and Selfridges.  He has designed an exclusive 20-piece collection for the collaboration: each item is labelled with an image of the torso statue on a Selfridges-yellow background.

Whether or not you want to buy a piece from the collection, do stop by if you can; it is quite a sight.  I should have mentioned, though, it’s only his upper body that is modelled here, so there is no danger to your sensibilities!

  1. Oops, sorry my link did not work out:( This is a serious looking sculpture. Do you know what the artist meant with it? Burka’s in London … I have to get used to the view…I can tell it’s too long that I’ve been there!

    • I have to say I don’t know enough about the fashion designer to comment on teh sculpture of him, though he obviously likes it as it appears on his clothing! Burkas are everywhere in London now, not a trend I’m happy to see
