I is for… Invader

Bloomsbury invader

There has been an invasion of little, and sometimes not so little, pixellated men across the globe, starting in Paris in 1998.

They seem friendly enough so if you want to meet some of them you can track them all on Invader’s website.  You can even score points for each one you find – The London Star Wars piece above scores 100 points.

These pieces of mosaic art are the work of a street artist known by his chosen pseudonym of Invader.  He calls himself a ULA, an unidentified living artist, and always works behind a mask.  He is still very active, with new and repeat invasion waves still happening around the world.

His most well known pieces are, needless to say, his space invaders, but Invader does other work too, including exhibitions, commissions, sculptures, books and films.

This bridge in the MuseumsQuartier of Vienna was bedecked in pixel tiles in 2008 when Invader was resident artist at Quartier21.

  1. Best “I” post of the batch! I have a friend who has an Invader on her home in California, so awesome…art is everywhere!

  2. Goodmorning

Sometimes there are to much ‘ínvasions’ in ones life aren’t there.
Making choices about what to let in or what to keep out is not that bad at all 😉

    Have a nice day!

  3. Good for him to dress up so blah places as long as he doesn’t do this to cathedrals I say good for him. I know of a bridge near where I live that he could create his work on:)

  4. Who would ever remove Space Invaders? I dig the Star Wars one. I’d wish someone would do it here (not me though – I’d miscount and it Princess Leia would look like Jabba the Hutt.

Glad I found you through the A to Z Challenge.
