I have featured this massive upside-down alien previously. He landed on his head in a London garden in early 2013, and was a feature that I would make a detour to walk past whenever I was in the Victoria area.
The sculptor David Breuer-Weil’s massive creation was inspired in part by his grandfather who arrived in England as a “foreign alien” in 1938.
“My visitor is an Alien from another world, another culture, representing contemporary life where visitors can arrive not just from other cultures but also from other spheres. I want to surprise the viewer here with the shock of recognition. Alien is another version of ourselves”
Unfortunately for me, this alien has now finished its London visit and has flitted further south. Currently, he is on show at Mottisfont, a National Trust riverside abbey near Romsey in Hampshire. A real incentive to get me to head down that way!
