St Paul’s Cathedral, London,  September 2015

At 111 metres in height, the current St Paul’s Cathedral was the tallest building in London from 1710 to 1962, when it was overtaken by the Post Office tower (now known as the BT Tower).

In fact, the Old St Paul’s Cathedral was the first structure in London to exceed a height of 100 metres. It was completed in 1310, at a height of 150 metres, making it the world’s tallest structure until 1311, when it was surpassed by Lincoln Cathedral.  Amazingly, it regained the world’s height title in 1549 when Lincoln Cathedral lost its spire!
