Dawn in Istanbul,  April 2015

I fell in love with Istanbul and its people when I visited last year, and I’m missing it.  It is a beautiful, walkable, historical, modern, photogenic and very welcoming city.

I was lucky to spend part of my time there last spring on a workshop led by photographer Anthony Epes.  Exploring a city with a great photographer always opens your eyes to new things.

If you fancy trying it out for yourself, I highly recommend Anthony’s trips.  If you fancy something sooner than that, and you’re in London, do head along to the East End Film Festival and visit his Istanbul at Dawn Photography Exhibition (22-28 June, Spitalfields Market).

A small warning from me: if you haven’t already been to Istanbul, you will be desperate to visit once you have seen his photos!  Mention my name and you’ll get in for free.  I jest – it’s free entry anyway. Enjoy!

  2. Your photographs are an excellent sales pitch, Debs. Istanbul has been on my list for the longest time and Cities at Dawn looks like it will be an amazing book. I just signed up to his newsletter.

    1. It’s a good newsletter too. You’ll enjoy it. I am a member of his Light Monkeys group and we meet up monthly for walks and reviews. I’ve done Venice and Istanbul with him and I’m doing Cuba next year! If you come down to London let me know and if it coincides with anything he’s doing, I’ll take you along! I’m doing a dawn walk next Sunday – when I signed up I thought it was afternoon, so it was a bit of a shock when I realised that it’s 04:15!!
