Cloisters of Mont St Michel, France, September 2016
I always think of cloisters as being buried low down and in the midst of the building, but the nature of Mont St Michel perched on an island and reaching up towards the sky, led to a break with that tradition. This cloister here is at the top of the building, light and airy, a place of meditation with a clear view upwards. The two overlapping rows of pointed arches, featured above, add a feeling of grace and the obligingly blue and fluffy sky definitely added a heavenly feeling.

I can’t put my finger on why, but I just love this shot!

I have a soft spot for it too. It has a strange feel to me – it looks short and low down, but was actually up at the top of Mont St Michel.
I also think the arches give it a calm, religious feel.

Yes, but they can also bee seen as teeth 😉 the arches I mean. And if you think about them as that it becomes a whole differant feeling of the picture!

Nice shot. I thought I recognized the Mont-Saint-Michel- 🙂
Now, Normandy? That is what Normands claim, but all Bretons will tell you Mont Saint-Michel is in Brittany. 😉

I know, I can’t get my head around it being Normandy.
The river that pops out right next to the monastery is the border, so much of the Bay is Brittany. Both Bay and Mount are a World Heritage Site
