French chateau in England

Wrest Park, Bedfordshire,  August 2018

Wrest Park was home to the de Grey family, Earls of Kent, from 1280 into the 19th century. The house seen here today, is the third building to occupy the site.  Inspired by a French chateau and built by a French architect, it was built in 1834.

The house also became residence for the US Ambassador in the early 19th century.

  1. Exquisite photo. I agree with the above comment of having to heat and clean a place of that size, but them if you have a place of that size you have people to do those tasks. Beautiful grounds as well.

  2. I like a house with a bit of size, but that might be a little over the top. Just imagine having to heat and furnish it. On the other hand, you could probably use roller skates to get from one place to another and really stay in shape. And let’s not even mention the servants…
