Arbroath Abbey was founded in 1178 by King William the Lion. He was buried here in December 1214, in front of the high altar in the still only partially completed Abbey Church.

Excellent shot from a higher perspective, Debbie. We don’t have abbeys here and they are my favourite places to visit when I am in UK 🙂 Neat photos all around.

It was a well kept graveyard, but the aged nature of many of the graves made it eerie even in the sun. And I love your word, enigmatic, very apt
