Life-sized Catalyst

DundeeA730107420180211-1

Dundee,  October 2018

Parked on the grass outside a multi-storey car park in Dundee, sits a car covered in a rather solid sheet.  It took a moment to appreciate that it is a sculpture not a case of haphazard parking. It is a whimsical piece of public art, in a city that is enjoying and encouraging the spread of street art.

However, it has more to that mere whimsy.  It turns out that it was commissioned by Dundee City Council from Scottish artists Dalziel + Scullion for a city centre site. Catalyst is a life-sized eco-friendly car that has been cast in catalytic cement, which absorbs airborne pollutants.
