There are certainly plenty of tourists spending a night or two floating on Halong Bay, but there are local people living on the water too. There are plenty of boats well equipped for cooking, sleeping and the laundry.

Looking in any direction, you’ll spot elaborate fishing set-ups, with nets, cogs and wheels galore.

The few that I could see into, looked more like working stations than houses, but I’m sure many are lived in too. If you have a quick web meander, you’ll see images of fair-sized fishing villages with fishing nets, houses, schools and more.
