This statue is a memorial to Isidora Dolores Ibárruri Gómez (1895 – 1989) and a thank you to those who went out from Britain to fight in the Spanish Civil War. Also known as known as Pasionaria, Passionflower, she was Republican heroine of the Spanish Civil War and a communist politician of Basque origin.

Love this. I’m from Glasgow and lived in the Basque Country for a while about 5 years ago. Had no idea she was Basque. Thanks for sharing.
