I remember the parliament building in Edinburgh being unusual but I don’t remember those windows….shame on me for not taking a photo! My window entry https://cathathome.blogspot.com/2019/08/inspired-sunday-anglican-over-coffee.html

The windows are round the back – not obvious unless you know the side street to go down. The front is what we all see as we walk down the Royal Mile, and it is much bleaker.

That’s quite an attractive way to secure windows, Debbie. I went with two views of two different windows, one from the outside and one inside out. I hope you’re enjoyed your day.

Those windows fascinated me also when I was there. My theory is that it prevents MPs from jumping out of the window (there must be enough reasons for parliamentarians to despair) ;-=

Thanks Jo.
I take photos of these windows every time I visit Edinburgh! Next time, I need to carry stepladders or find a friend in the apartments opposite

They are my favourite part of this modern building – they were designed by a Catalan architect, Enric Miralles

They may be to add a sense of privacy, as these are the offices of the Scottish MPs. But I think mainly they are aesthetic.
