Queensferry Crossing without snow and ice

Queensferry Crossing between Edinburgh and Fife, July 2018

The new road bridge across the Forth opened in August 2017 and has been a welcome addition to locals who commute this route. But yesterday it closed for the first time, adding to the travel chaos already caused by the weather. Snow had built up on the cables high above the road, where it froze and then fell on vehicles below. While that was happening over the river, I was sitting at the airport watching the snow and waiting for a much-delayed plane. At least I was warm and well-fed.

  1. Gorgeous photos for a gorgeous bridge. I love the design and engineering. I could imagine the musical tones created by the wind passing over the cables as if the bridge were a gigantic harp.
