A bright day in Campo Santa Maria Formosa, Venice, February 2017
It’s Carnival time in Venice again, and my thoughts have shifted from grey, wet Britain to some of the marvellous skies, and the lights and shadows that I’ve enjoyed over there. And, of course, at this time of year there are also the tremendous costumes and the wonderful people behind those costumes.

Plus, the tasty and calorie-ridden fritelle.

Several of my friends are out there at the moment – so happy photographing, chatting, eating and drinking to you all. I’ll be with you in spirit.

Maybe. It’s always great fun with a good bunch of people. But if it wasn’t for the people at Carnival I’d always choose Biennale in autumn as my favourite time in Venice.
