Reservoir reflection

Mãe d’Água das Amoreiras Reservoir, Lisbon, March 2020

In the eighteenth century, the mighty Águas Livres Aqueduct brought needed clean water into Lisbon, over the arches on Rua das Amoreiras, and into the Mãe d’Água das Amoreiras Reservoir. The water gushes out of the mouth of a dolphin into a huge tank, where you can see the reflection of the vaulted cupola ceiling.

This place is well worth a visit, and be sure to take the stairs behind the dolphin as they take you to the rooftop terrace with its great views of the aqueduct and the city.
