Dreaming of venturing out more? Of riding trains? Of spinning in a big wheel? Of feeling wind through you hair?
The big wheel you can see here is at Margate’s aptly-named theme park, Dreamland. There has been an amusement park here since the 1880s, though it has gone through some closed years. It closed in 2003 but was eventually renovated and reopened in 2015. The company sadly went into liquidation, but further renovation tool place and it opened again in 2017, and is enjoying popularity again. This year it will be celebrating its 100th anniversary, having taken on the name “Dreamland” in 1920.

Dreamland big wheel, Margate, September 2015
I was back in Margate earlier this year and there was no sign of the classic big wheel. It had been taken down for checks and repairs during the winter season. I am assuming it is now back on the skyline, but the park is, of course, closed during COVID-19 lockdown.

Feeling very nostalgic looking at this, I have not been to Margate, but that mix of the 1920/30’s Dreamland, the big wheel, and trains, make me think, of Cinemas, Dixieland and the funfair where I spent a lot of my youth in Rhyl. Alas I have no photos from this time, so am off to find another dream.

Yes, I can remember the summer funfair being a highlight of my year. I loved the waltzers!
But I look forward to you alternative dream, Tallulah

COVID-19 has really had an impact, hasn’t it? For “dream”, I should have a photo of Wyoming, but I didn’t. See you soon (or when I wake up!)

Wyoming is a dream for me 🙂
I had it pencilled in for 2021, but as 2020 (and its costs) is now moving into 2021, I think perhaps Wyoming 2022.

If you’re going to be there, let me know well in advance and if it’s during the summer, we might be able to meet, which would be lots of fun. It’s a wonderful and wonder-filled place and I could share a few places I think are worth seeing.
