HOST is a piece that Gormley initial created in 1991, in a disused US jail in Charleston, using mud and seawater from the harbour. At the 2019 exhibition in London, the piece was recreated by flooding one of the rooms in the Royal Academy with seawater, and adding clay from Buckinghamshire.

It’s an amazing piece, though I can image the building manager and maintenance people being less than happy.

Clever…they must have spent a bit, flooding a room for effect without compromising the fabric of the building!

surprised they didn’t have a video of the process in another room, I would have been more fascinated by that than the final effect!
