Close to Tower Bridge, London, December 2020
This small piece of street art caught my eye as I wandered along the north bank of the Thames a week or two ago. It was only when I started to edit the photo that I realised it has a message entwined in the flowers – a poetic message in Russian.

It’s an extract from a poem by Robert Rozhdestvensky:
-Здравствуй! Кого я вижу!
Больно глазам!
-Hi! Whom do I see!
It hurts your eyes!
Just like in a fairy tale:
suddenly, in the middle of winter – a summer miracle!
So don’t believe in miracles …

how wonderful – rather special you spotted the poem afterwards. Hope all went well yesterday driving up to see your mum

Went ok. Broke the border with no problem 🙂 we were inundated by signs but there were more about Operation Stack on the M20 than about tier 4

Stunning mural and wonderful translation. Is there anything you CAN’T do Debbie?

I nearly couldn’t! And Russian was what I studied at University, albeit a very long time ago.

Very pretty and I’m impressed that you speak Russian. I would have been using the camera part of Google translate!

I did Russian at university, but I can barely speak it anymore. 😦

It took a while for some of the letters to gel in my head. Not used to reading handwritten Russian. Then it was easy. Sounded like a poem and a quick Google search revealed the author. 🙂
