- Countries ending with A
As I mentioned last week, I’m taking a break from my Wednesday quotations and tackling geography with an alphabetic slant instead. Last week I kicked off with countries beginning and ending with A. This week I’ve set myself a broader brief – countries ending with A, no matter what they start with.
I’ve gone with Transnistria. This breakaway state has been recognised by only three other states, themselves of limited recognition: Abkhazia, Artsakh, and South Ossetia. By most it is still recognised as a part of Moldova, and as that also ends with A I don’t feel I’m cheating too much.

And here’s a small gallery of the town of Bender or Bendery (Бендеры)

If any of you fancy joining in and need some ideas, here’s a list of countries ending with A, including a few that are not officially recognised by many other countries.

I’m always delighted to learn something more about places I may travel to and although I’ve never heard of Transnistria and I doubt if it will find itself on my bucket list, it certainly looks interesting. your images certainly make it seem so. I shall have to get the ladder out and access the high shelf on which my old photos are stored in boxes and did out some ……..a’s.

Interesting – I’ve never heard of it. I stayed very provincial: https://picturesimperfectblog.wordpress.com/2021/09/01/is-it-a-country-is-it-a-state-no-its-a-huge-lady-in-bronze/
