There is a long history of puppet production and performance in Ortigia. This puppet maker was situated close to both the puppet theatre and the puppet museum. Do be sure to check out his work and go to a theatre performance if in Siracusa.

I got sidetracked into The Walk from the comments. Before that I was going to say what a beautiful setting this gent has for his work.

Yes, working in the narrow streets of Ortigia – and what a wonderful job that must be for someone creative and good with their hands

How did I miss that in Siracusa? Never mind, it’s good to have something new to look forward to on the next visit. Will keep me away from the ruins for a few hours!

These look like very detailed puppets. I had a string puppet and I was thrilled that I managed to get it to take a few steps – I never could manage more than that.

Where is the time of the puppet theatres… now everything is digital.
Nice series of photos 🙂

I remember having a string puppet when I was a boy. All that could manage was to get the strings all tangled up.

PS have you seen Little Amal has arrived. I am not going to have a chance to see her, do hope you will have time as love to see more of her. Have been thoroughly enjoying her journey on Instagram – those puppeteers must be so fit!

I’m in London next week. I wonder if I can work it that William and I get to see her? I didn’t know you could follow her on Instagram. Almost too late now. Story of my life.

Yes. It was excellent. I couldn’t understand it all (my Italian is almost non-existent) but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
