Soho Photography Quarter (SPQ), Ramillies Street, London, November 2020

This area around The Photographers’ Gallery, just south of Oxford Street, is currently being redesigned to be a more welcoming and accessible area, with more photography on show, more seating, better lighting, … It is due for completion in Spring 2022.

I knew that I knew Ramillies Street.

Yes, mainly known for the Photographers Gallery. But it was also a bit of a seedy cut through from Oxford Street – not a pleasant walk at night. Now it is being given new lights and being turned into a place to hang out without bad intentions

I don’t recall it being particularly seedy but I was in my 20s when I lived in London and have always looked like a mugger. One reason why I can’t do inconspicuous street photography.

This is terrific. I have been several times to the Gallery. It is a favorite of our son’s.

He has good taste. They have some excellent exhibitions there, changing regularly, and the shop and cafe are great too.

Yes I have always been impressed with exhibitions there. I forwarded a link to your post. He is currently working in Montenegro for a few weeks but if he has not seenthis new display he will be back in London and will be out to see it.

Yes. This outdoor display will be a permanent thing – just different images. And I think they will be projecting images onto the currently blank wall, once all of the road works are complete.
