This post really makes one think, Debbie. On the one hand, having to travel to another country because your life is disrupted. As the receiving country, dealing with the social needs of the people arriving and the feelings of those already in the country. It’s a huge issue. Art often deals with social issues. Thanks for sharing this important work.

Seems decades since I was here, but was actually only January 2020. So much has changed since then!

Interesting. It looks like it is made of what my dad called hardware cloth.

I have this exact same photo Debbie, I took it a few years ago and was very intrigued by it

Ah yes. It was installed in 2017, but somehow I had never spotted it before

It was before I had a blog and I’ve never posted that photo.

I love this, and the fact that it has its basis on an ongoing reality gives it more nous. Thanks for showing this, I would never have seen it otherwise.

Yes, a solid reminder of the vulnerability of these people, and that they are just like us

That’s a great work of art – makes you react emotionally (tbh, it makes me a little uncomfortable & sad)

A lot of issues there. On a positive note, though, it is places in Spitalfields because this area has been home to migrants throughout history where they have settled and become part of the community.

If it is what I think, it is terrible

Very stark. But positioned in a place known for its acceptance of migrants.
