World’s largest gannet colony at Bass Rock, East Lothian, Scotland
August 2016 below and April 2019 above

Avian flu has hit the gannet colony at Bass Rock: dead birds are to be seen on the rock and nearby. Nobody knows what the final impact will be.
Now over to all of you. Do come and join us in our Saturday six-word musings.
I’ll admit that many of us openly break the numeric rule and share far more words (all excellent of course!) so the key rule is to have a title of six words – and then create around that the post that you desire! Perhaps in bunches of 6 words if you’re feeling inspired.
To join the challenge, please put a link in your post to the URL of this post. Then come back here and leave us a comment. If you have any problems with linking, just put your own URL into the comment. And do feel free to socialise digitally – tweet, instagram, flickr, etc. with the hashtags #SixWordSaturday and #6WS.

That is so sad, Debbie. Too bad there’s not a vaccine that could be sprayed into the air. They are so beautiful. My post isn’t as thoughtful as your six words, but this is it. https://alwayswrite.blog/2022/06/19/too-early-to-have-coffee-today/ Hope you have a great week. 🙂

Yes. It’s a place I love to visit and I fear it will look very different next time I get there 😦

It may attract a different type of bird!

That sounds awful. I had to do something completely different, I couldn’t find a photo to respond to that.
– Besides that both photos, the cliff and the close-up of the gannet are beautiful.

That has to be a major concern…. just as they young are taking to the wing and Gannets are travelling large distances for food.

This is very sad, it appears many seabird populations are bein hit hard. On a brighter note, here’s my image for today: https://suejudd.com/2022/06/18/a-lovely-carpet-of-wild-flowers/

Apparently it’s had a devastating effect in seabirds. And when we were in the Balkans, up to 80% of the pelicans had died. Not good.

Oh dear. I think they are fearing figures like that for the gannets – they live literally on top of each other so it is spreading fast.

The verdict in the Balkans is that the numbers are such that they should recover. Let’s hope it’s trie, and the same for our seabirds too.

Yes! Some cases were found even in Norway.

It is very sad indeed. This colony lives in such a well protected and watched over place, but not protection that can fight flu 😦
