Very new. The metro in Almaty was delayed when the Soviet Union split up and didn’t open till 2011.

It wasn’t what I was thinking when I saw it. It takes forever to descend and I was almost lying on my back by the time I got to the bottom. Couldn’t take photo from too due to a) fear and b) fear …..

They designed the stations in many of the Soviet cities for people like you. There are some stunning ones with chandeliers and mosaics and sculptures. A lot more appealing than a lot of what was above ground. But Almaty did that at the bottom of very long escalators 🥴
