For me the harrowing part is the banality of it all. It’s not demonic, no blood curdling screams and dripping blood. Just bureaucracy with heartless, cold rules. And the perpetrators thought they were doing good, were bettering mankind, paving the way for a better future.
I think so. Have you read Stasiland by Anna Funder? She visits both and gives lots of detail. I aunt sure if the Leipzig one is still open. When did you visit Sarah?

Back to the 50es? Do typewriters still exist???

No, only the late 80s.
And I think they are now museums items only!

Excellent photos! I particularly like the table reflection in the first.

Beautiful light. Those times are especially frightening now because the dark side of human nature is on full display.

Interesting, I’m sure but definitely harrowing

This looks a museum to catch up on – even if harrowing.

We visited the Stasi HQ in Leipzig – harrowing but also a fascinating insight into those times. I imagine this would be much the same?

No, I’ve not read that – I’ll look out for it. We were in Leipzig in late 2018 (October I think). A shame if it’s closed, it was an excellent museum.
