A colourful note:  denim is a shade of indigo named after the blue jeans fabric that hails from Nîmes in France. Strictly speaking, denim is a two-coloured fabric. iTraditionally, only the warp threads are dyed, while the weft threads remain plain white, resulting in one side of the textile showing the blue warp threads and the other showing the white weft threads.
