It was cold, wet, frozen and windy in Edinburgh this week. The only good weather news was that it didn’t snow as heavily as forecast (yet).
To keep warm I went in search of food and drink. I discovered Teuchters Bar with its cosy restaurant in the basement below. The food is locally sourced and the menu is varied and interesting. The starter I chose was a little unusual (pear and date scone with blue cream cheese) and very tasty; the mackerel fillets in my main choice were pan-fried perfectly. The service was friendly and relaxed and the basement was not at all claustrophobic, thanks to these fun windows:
I strongly recommend this restaurant for a relaxed meal with friends or colleaugues. It is part of a small chain: “A room in … Scottish bistros”. Teuchters Bar above is worth a visit too, with over 80 malt whiskies and 16 beers on tap.

So perfect for the challenge and the restaurant a gem. Isn’t it nice when you find a gem?
