“Dolphin” lamps

These beautiful “Dolphin” lamp standards are situated on the south bank of the Thames.

In fact, the area is known as the Dolphin Zone, though the “dolphins” are actually sturgeons.

The lamps were designed by George Vuillamy for the Metropolitan Board of Works and modelled by James Mabey.  Alternate lights have either an inscription to Queen Victoria or the date of construction.
