A Quieter Venice

I like this part of the lagoon front in Venice; it’s only a few paces away from the madding crowds gawping at the Bridge of Sighs, but here you can walk rather than shuffle, you can admire the views and the expensive boats and you can stop for a refreshing drink without paying St Mark’s prices for a seat outside.

The photo above captures its calmer ambience well, and thanks go to the woman posing for a photo for adding that extra bit of interest to the image.

  1. This was my favourite Place in Venice too. That and the tiny backgardens that you get a peek at and the park at the end there. It is amazing to see Greenery in that space.

  2. Amazingly quiet for Venice, Debbie! I’ve been several times and have differing recollections, but have never stayed in the city itself. I would love to do that, and wander the back streets. 🙂

    • I stayed in Cannaregio which is fairly residential, and I loved the canals there that ran pretty much parallel to the Grand Canal – a great local atmosphere and pretty too

      • Nice one for the challenge. I suspected it was and have just followed the link. I often don’t see the challenge post on Friday nights so it’s a matter of spotting it among my commenters. You were my first 🙂

  3. Venice was never on my list of places I had to see, but when we booked a cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary, it started and finished in Venice. We spent a night there on either side of the week long cruise and I fell in love with the place. There is nowhere like it on earth, it’s simply magical. I remember this view very well – we also like to get away from the crowds so we walked down here. We ended up wandering around the shopping streets frequented by the locals and peering into the military base.
A great city, one I hope to return to

    • I had been before and I although I enjoyed it I didn’t fall in love with it. But this time I had time to wander and see the quiet streets and the big empty squares and i absolutely fell in love! I shall be back…
