Cash Just Got Smarter

Here in England our £5 notes have got cleaner and tidier recently as more new ones have been put into circulation.  Spending a fiver just got even more attractive, though.

The Royal Mint has just produced this set of silver Proof £5 coins featuring four iconic London landmarks: Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge and Trafalgar Square.  The are official UK coins but at £360 for the set, you won’t spend them lightly.

Two talented engravers at the Royal Mint, Laura Clancy and Glyn Davies, have given these familiar sights a fluid, living feel.  They have been modelled in clay, rather than the normal plaster, which adds the softness to the design, and colour has been added to the finished product.   My personal favourite is Tower Bridge with its hints of blue.

  1. I think my favorite is also Big Ben. But I wouldn’t want to part with it so what good is the new design?

    • Now that is a very good question as the politicians say. And like most politicians I don’t have an answer!

    • If I was running a poll, I think Big Ben would be winning. I saw Big Ben at night last week and I wished I had my tripod – it looked splendid, with what looked like green lighting around the top.
