Montparnasse Tower and Below

-Look Up, Look Down Challenge, Week 60

Every Thursday, I publish a post containing photo(s) taken from above or below, and invite you to join in the challenge by posting your own photos with an up or down perspective.

A couple of weeks ago I introduced you to the Montparnasse Tower from street level.  I know that not everyone is a fan…

But I did promise to share the views from the top, so here we go.

When you exit the high speed elevator, you find yourself in a large carpeted area with touch screen information points, a cafe and a souvenir shop.  The screens are pretty good but there aren’t many of them, and even off peak you’ll find yourself queuing to use them.

Don’t stress.  Just take the steps up to the roof where you have a 360 degree view of Paris.  The glass walls allow for great sightseeing, and for photographers there are gaps in the barrier so you can avoid reflections and smudged glass.

You’re probably wondering how it compares with the view from the better known tower in Paris.  Well, the Tour Montparnasse, has one big advantage –  you get a clear view of the Eiffel Tower itself.

The main shortcoming though, in my view, is not being able to see the Seine.  You can see the odd bridge but you can’t actually see the river.

Generally speaking the views are great, however, and it is less crowded up here than at the Eiffel Tower.  There is even a champagne bar on the roof for further enjoyment.

I’ll leave you with a few more views, and I’ll be back in a couple of weeks with views from the new glass floor at the Eiffel Tower.
