Light Festival in Amsterdam

a1-9802-001

I managed to get to Amsterdam just before the end of its winter Light Festival.  The Ghost Ship (above) was incredibly atmospheric, but it was difficult to do it justice in a photograph.

The walking route had already finished but the time I got to Amsterdam, but the canal tours were still running.  Sadly, I was there on a very wet night making it hard to get good photos through the wet and steamy windows (thankfully they provide window scrapers so that we could clear condensation!), but this mosaic will give you a taster and perhaps encourage you to put the 2015-16 in your diary now.

If this has piqued your interest, there are several other light displays this year.  It’s short notice, I know, but Ghent (Belgium) has its festival running 30 Jan – 1 Feb; Osaka’s Castle and gardens (Japan) have a spectacular light display on now until 1 March; Durham  (England) will hopefully host its biannual display in November.

If you can’t get to any of those, take a look at this video of the Oasaka lights:

  1. Talk about a fantasy of lights – the palace video is awesome. The ghost ship is haunting yet appealing isn’t it?

    • The ship was especially clever, And I do wish I could have got to Japan to see those lights! Another year maybe…
