The Square Jean-XXIII wraps around the South and East sides of Notre Dame. This picturesque little garden is a gift of peace away from the tourist throngs, a breath of fresh in a busy city. There are benches on which to rest your weary feet and and admire the perfect views of the Notre Dame’s mighty flying buttresses.
Scattered amongst the colourful flower beds are some large mirrors, providing unusual views of the Cathedral and, of course, plenty of selfie opportunities.
But if you are thinking of taking your selfie stick inside Notre Dame, you may need to think again. A number of museums and other public buildings have recently brought in rules banning selfie sticks, citing reasons of safety and crowd disruption. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the National Gallery in London, National Gallery of Art in Washington, many premier league football grounds in England are just a few of the places that have already imposed the ban.

Isn’t the idea of planting mirrors in the garden just the neatest thing. Now, why didn’t I think of that.

What an interesting place. Just enough of pretty flowers to add a perfect touch. I like the last shot very much.

This looks so beautiful and a nice rest stop near such a busy place. Personally I wish selfies would go bye bye

Great shots, nice to see you. Though I am not sure about the mirrors – a sudden image of yourself among the gardens?????

I love your selfie. I don’t understand why people are so against them. There’s bigger problems in the world than selfies.

I don’t understand the need to keep taking selfies, so I’m quite happy to hear that places are banning the selfie stick.
I love these little gardens scattered around the cities. I don’t know the ones in Paris too well, but do have my favourites in London.

What a glorious little space in a city! It’s years since I visited Notre Dame, and certainly never registered this garden……

It’s been a long time since I was on Ile de la Cité. I was in Paris with my mum for a week in 1961.
Thanks for your entry.

I can’t see the point of taking selfies, my daughters’ do it, but most of them come out distorted and out of focus. The garden is very pretty, an oasis in a busy city.
Notre dame is on my ‘hit list’……one day !
best wishes,

Good! I’m tired of tripping over selfie takers 😦 😦
I don’t remember those mirrors. Would they have been there last August, Debs? 🙂

I think so – I took these shots mid-Sept last year. It may be that you didn’t walk through this bit of garden – t’s not a garden I’ve ever walked through before, despite visiting Paris many times!

It was a bit grey and we hadn’t been there long that trip when we passed by. I remember a hurried couple of shots. Mick was wandering ahead 🙂
