If you could get all the nutrition you needed in a day with a pill — no worrying about what to eat, no food preparation — would you do it?
There are some difficult questions in life but, for me, this is not one of those – the answer here is an emphatic “no”.
For me, food is about so much more than nutrition. It’s about tastes and colour. It’s about the time of year. It’s about sharing with friends and loved ones. It’s about geography and culture. Food is a major part of my travels.
I’m going to share with you a special restaurant that combines all of these foody attributes, along with more than a dash of showmanship.
Tickets was the idea of Albert Adrià, the famed pastry chef who worked alongside his brother Ferran at the even more famous El Bulli. In 2006 he left to open Inopia in Barcelona and went on to develop ideas that he could not achieve within the physical limitations of Inopia; so was born the concept of Tickets. He involved his brother Ferran, along with the Iglesias brothers, owners of the Rías de Galicia Group and this vibrant culinary showplace became reality.
The food is simply heavenly. The flavours are top class and the appearance is stunning, ranging from simple to complex dishes, including cakes that look like rocks and olives that look and taste like olives, but are actually liquid.
The theatre come circus surroundings reflect the origins of this part of Barcelona. The place is lively, fun and completely unstuffy.
It has been voted number 42 in the World’s Top 50 Restaurants. Needless to say, it is extremely popular so be sure to book in advance.
Tickets, Avinguda Paral·lel 164, Barcelona 08015

My answer to your question would be yes – but with occasional days off. 🙂

I don’t like pills at any time and certainly not to replace one of the joys of life!
