As you stroll down the Royal Mile, from the iconic Castle to the equally famous Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh’s Old Town displays its glory to you. Close to the bottom, you’ll be surprised to catch a glimpse of a modern, attention-grabbing set of windows.

Scottish Parliament Building, Edinburgh, March 2016
These are the bay windows of the offices of the Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) in the modern Scottish Parliament Building. There is an office here for each MSP, each with a bay window of varying depth, width and angle. The Catalan designer, Enric Miralles, intended the interior side of the bay to provide a “contemplation area”, whilst outside he has been influenced by the traditional Scottish stepped gable and the nearby bamboo garden (though the “bamboo” poles are made of solid oak).

Fantastic windows and really a unique architecture.

I’m not so fond of the front but I love these windows. I’m planning to explore some more soon and I’ll post again!
But at the moment I’m watching a TV programme of a canal ride from Gothenburg to Stockholm! Loving it😀
