The origin of the potato crisp (chip in the US) is attributed to William Kitchiner, an Enlish optician, musician and cook, in his massive bestseller The Cook’s Oracle in 1822. Recipes appeared in the United States in Virginia House-Wife (1824) and Cook’s Own Book (1832), citing Kitchiner. But flavours didn’t make their grand appearance until the 1950’s, when Joe “Spud” Murphy, the owner of Irish chip company Tayto (who still make great crisps!), developed a technology to add seasoning during manufacture.
Happy Easter everyone!

Salt and vinegar is my favourite, but I think they should be blue and cheese and onion should be green. Golden Wonder and Walkers have them the opposite way round to each other, so that sometimes I have been fooled into buying cheese and onion instead of salt and vinegar. I hate cheese and onion. This might sound trivial but I regard it as a serious threat to world order (well, my world anyway) 😉
Happy Easter!

Do you know, I hadn’t noticed that. I don’t mind cheese and onion but I’d be very disappointed if I had them instead of salt and vinegar. Blue salt and vinegar for me too!

Love those pencils. Definitely English flavors though. I’m not sure I could go for a prawn cocktail chip. 🙂

Do you remember the little blue twist of paper containing salt? Smiths’ Crisps?

I love these pencils! I think my favourite flavour is probably Salt and Vinegar. Another one I used to like was Roast Chicken, but you don’t see it quite so much now.

I’ve never been to keen on the meaty ones, but I used to enjoy prawn cocktail. My older taste buds prefer more traditional!!

Those pencils are the right color for this weekend’s eggs. I think I like the salt and vinegar the best, but the prawn cocktail does sound interesting. I haven’t seen that flavor here in the U.S.

Happy Easter! My ex- used to make fresh potato chips by frying up slices of Idaho potatoes. Yummy!

A sad loss? – the chips I mean!
Not something I’d bother making myself, I have to say.
