A colourful note:  shamrock was another of the colours named by members of the public in the 1992 naming competition.  The creator of this green name was Patricia Hoh, aged 11, from Johnsonburg, Pa.

The name represents the color of shamrock plants, a symbol of Ireland. The first recorded use of this as a colour name dates back to the 1820s.
