Chateau d’If and Marseille, from Ile de Ratonneau, May 2016
If you get to Marseille, a city that has long been high on my list of favourite cities, do take the 30 minute trip out to the Frioul Archipelago. Out here, you can revel in pleasant walks, enjoy the wildlife and gaze back at Marseille, with Notre Dame peeping back at you.
Practical note: boats leave frequently from Marseille’s Vieux Port. Weather permitting, you can stop at both the Chateau d’If and Ratonneau and Pomègues. On windy days, the boats cannot dock at If, but you can get good views of it from the other islands.

I love the photos and the the travel suggestion. I have always dismissed Marseilles as a big seaport without charm. Obviously, I am mistaken!
