The Dartmouth Steam Railway offers a sedate and traditional exit from the cheap-eating, funfair-overwhelmed Paignton, taking you through Agatha Christie land to Kingswear, where a short boat trip will deliver you to Dartmouth.

Lydham Manor locomotive, Devon, August 2016
If the train you are getting on has an observation car, I highly recommend paying the supplement (about £2) to relax in its luxurious seats and gaze out of the large windows.
The 7827 Lydham Manor was built in December 1950 in Swindon, withdrawn in 1965 and rescued in 1970. Lydham’s major claim to fame is that it hauled the royal train in the late 1950s.

This part of the observation car could encourage you to ignore the sign in the top photo!
Sadly, it was not in operation.
