Havana after a downpour, Cuba, December 2016
Every month, Paula is featuring a “before and after” (colour versus monochrome) challenge. A great topic for me. I love black and white images but I am often torn between colour and black & white. They each have their advantages, and I usually want both!

The reflection shot was taken near the yellow star (small) on this Google map

Colour is here the only good choice!

I absolutely adore these photographs. No matter whether its B&W or color you’ve captured a time in an islands history. They are creative and quite historic. Priceless images …

What a gorgeous pair? I wonder what the air smells like after the rain in Havana? Really gorgeous images of an almost empty street. Thank you very much, Debbie. I am very glad that you like the challenge. I was going to ask which rendition you liked best, but I have my answer above. Colour it is.

I have to say, I didn’t really notice a post-rain smell, I have to say
Yes, the challenge means I can be indecisive and show both versions!

Absolutely. I love the colours in this one – more cheerful

I am not a fan of B&W but I do some photos for mood. In the two photos above I would pick colour.

I’m definitely pro-colour on this one. But black and white can show off texture and mood (as you highlight) and keep the viewer occupied for longer

Love the timelessness of the monochrome, Debs! Was this taken far from Havana Vieja?

No, this was along the Malecon close to the Russian Orthodox church. I’m looking for a map
