Double Art deco

Chrysler Building Reflected,  New York,  February 2017

This Art Deco skyscraper opened in May 1930 and enjoyed the status of tallest building in the world, until the Empire State Building grabbed the title just eleven months later.

A few buildings have taken the title since but the Chrysler Building has retained its beauty and glamour – one of my favourites.  The graceful sunburst arches on the stainless steel arches atop, with their sharp triangular windows, make me gaze at that rooftop at any opportunity.  And I am not the only admirer – it has been voted top skyscraper by many groups in recent years, including being ranked ninth in the American Institute of Architects’ List of America’s Favourite Architecture in 2007.

  1. These are amazing. And now I’m just a little bit nostalgic for one of my homes. Before this sounds too arrogant, we moved around a lot. So every place is a bit like home. Some more than others though. And this one most definitely was.
