Tribute to Old Havana

Tiled mural in Plaza de Simón Bolivar,  Havana,  November 2016

This striking mural is the work of Venezuelan artist Carmen Montilla Tinoco, who lived and worked in Havana and was a friend of Fidel Castro.  This piece, completed in 1999, is a tribute to La Habana Vieja (Old Havana) and to Eusebio Leal Spengler, who was a Havana City Historian and director of the restoration program of Old Havana.

Carmen Montilla died in 2004 but there is an art gallery in her name in Plaza de San Francisco de Asis.  It is located in a house that she renovated in 1994, and where she lived until her death.

    1. There was just too much to do in Havana!
I didn’t go to it either, didn’t know about it in fact. And there were other galleries and museums that i wanted to get into but the camera kept me outside!
