I recognise the lilac breasted roller even without his lilac breast! — And I used to play with a crowned crane when I was little (so I am told, I don’t remember). We were racing each other in the nearby park where he spent his summers. 😀 Great shots, Debbie!

I like bed the birds I saw but I’m not good with their names. The crowned cranes were lively, dancing together. You would probably have joined in with them.

The lilac breasted roller sits on every second pole or power line in South Africa. It was the only smaller bird in South Africa I could identify – it impressed the socks off any visiting friend and relative! The LBR is really much more impressive in flight – because of the stunningly brilliant turquoise of his wing feathers.
