  1. Red Threesome, love the caption as for me it says a great deal about Arbroath. We used to live not far away and then the Harbour was a proper Fishing harbour, always busy and at times virtually packed with working boats (not to mention the all pervading smell of ‘Smokies’ smoking along the quay side). Sadly, as you know the Fishing Industry declined over the UK., with Scotland being particularly hit. Since we moved away visits were only sporadic….at first it was rather sad to see the dilapidated and deserted harbour. Then the Yacht Marina came and new live and colour came back to the harbourside houses. So it is great to see the Red Threesome…. though I doubt Arbroath will see those hectic fishing days back again. 🙂

    1. That’s very interesting. It was my first time there, and it is very attractive. These 3 boats look wonderful, but when I was checking out their names, I found older photos where they did not look so cared for. Or maybe they were just working harder in those days.

      1. There was a time when the boat was the owner and his families pride and joy and despite the elements they were well cared for. But once the industry went into decline boats were sold, scrapped when no buyer came along and others found it hard to make ends meet. The recent revival whilst nothing like those busy years has seen more fisher families returning to the sea. Last year I was over on the west coast and talked to three young men who had talked the Bank into lending a junk of money, they had bought an old boat refurbishing it and could see a great future in fishing(shell fish I think) 🙂
