Orr Wullie, with his spiky hair, dungarees and upturned bucket, is a classic character who has appeared in the weekly comic strip in the Sunday Post since 1936.

He was always up to tricks so it’s no surprise to find him aiming his peashooter at a nearby statue of Rabbie Burns. And if you read his wee poem to Rabbie, you’ll get a good feel for his sense of humour and general cheekiness.

This 4 foot tall bronze sculpture sits outside the McManus art gallery in Dundee, and was unveiled here to celebrate his 80th birthday in 2016.

Oh happy memories of Oor Wullie. My Gran, and then later my Mum, got the Sunday Post newpaper and I was always eager to read about the latest antics of Oor Wullie, and also The Broons who appeared each week too. A great treat was to receive an Oor Wullie or a Broons annual at Christmas.

😂😂 as kids, my brother and I used to get Oor Wullie and The Broons annuals sent from Scotland as Christmas presents. My brother, who was only theee when we left Scotland, hated them because he simply couldn’t understand the Scots language.

Real fun! Although I almost feel sorry for Robert Burns. I have fond memories of Burns’ night in the middle of the Saudi desert with Scottish pipers in full regalia and a steaming haggis and (very small) tots of smuggled whiskey. 😀
