Mural on Art Lane, Hong Kong, November 2018
Shhh! It’s Shirley.
This charming mural, inspired by Shirley Temple, is in a popular street art area in Hong Kong, known as Art Lane. Street art can now be found up many a lane, on many a wall, around Hong Kong. I suspect, though, that much of its appeal is down to its potential as the colourful background to a selfie.

I certainly wasn’t alone when taking photos of street art, but it was hard to capture the art without the posing people, or without the competing cameras.

This mural was the work of French born artist, Elsa Jean de Dieu, who is now based in Hong Kong. She concentrated initially on interior decoration in Paris, but then moved to Hong Kong as Artistic Director for a local art company, and has now formed her own successful art studio.

Gorgeous, no wonder everyone wanted to photograph her. Glad you did manage to get the shot without anyone in it!

That is very, very beautiful!
Well and people in the picture, why not, it only shows how many people love it, right?

That’s an interesting insight about selfies and street art! There really are a lot of selfie-takers in museums too, as well as people taking pictures of each other (that would be a someone-elsie). I wonder if they feel it proves they have seen the art, or makes them part of it. My post today, it so-happens, is about selfies in museums.

Amazing how trends start and develop. For some people these selfies are the new postcards to send back to gran at home, for others they are part of their daily chat with friends on social media. I can imagine students studying the trend and dissertations underway.

Does look like Shirley Temple, very cute 🙂
In Sydney I saw so many people in line to pose in front of certain murals that I just gave up 😦
Thanks for participating Debbie.

I hate these photo bombers….. but then they have the right to do what they want don’t they? Street art has been taken to a new level with these kind of murals. I should share some of the ugly murals on our streets. Ostensibly they have social messages but honestly there is nothing artistic about them!
