The house of four cats

Traditional house, Valencia, July 2019

This traditional house was built by an animal lover to remember four cats who drowned in the serious floods in Valencia in 1954. I was told that it used to be an operating cat flap allowing the homeless to enter into the garden behind, but that it has now been blocked off.

The marker at the right of the image below shows the height the flood water reached in the next serious flood, in 1957. Following more loss of life, animal and human, the River Turia was diverted away from the city and the dry riverbed was eventually converted into a long garden that weaves its way around the city.

  1. I am really trying to get perspective on this thing. Is this a real house or a miniature? I’m enthralled with the story, but My eyes are playing tricks on me 😳😬💕
