Burning the rice stubble, ready for next planting.
Sadly, it is very bad for the environment and the smoke caused flight delays at hanoi airport last year due to the poor visibility. So there is huge pressure to stop. We banned stubble burning here in UK in ’93 but I know farmers still miss that tool.
A beautiful part of Vietnam, and I was there at a good time, seeing the work that goes into harvesting the rice. The smoke has turned this into a gentle image.
