Die Sonne wird im Ozean versinken by Ricky Lee Gordon
Berlin, October 2019

South African artist, Ricky Lee Gordon, was commissioned by Urban Nation to create this giant mural for their One Wall project in 2017.
Ricky Lee Gordon arrived knowing already what he wanted to create. He wanted something that would give a strong and hopeful message to people in the local area. It is a message that recurs in his work; a message of the strength of nature and its ability to overcome hardship. The majestic horse in the abandoned and flooded ornate building is strong and well.

Die Sonne wird im Ozean versinken Der Mond und das Wasser werden steigen Diese Könige in ihren Schlössern werden weggewaschen | The sun will sink into the ocean The moon and tides will rise These kings and their castles will wash away |

Of all the street art I have enjoyed at on my travels, this is up there in my top three. The horse gazes calmly across the Burger King car park, and I was sure he was talking to me.
Ricky Lee Gordon’s work can be spotted around the world, so I hope you all get to see some of his work. The only other one I have seen so far is in Istanbul – a quick glance here.

I apologize for being so late visiting. This is an amazing artist and an absolutely incredible mural. You found a good one and Burger King should pay you for the free ad (grin).

The mural seems so out of place, but then I thought, maybe the city seems out of place to the mural. i do love that mural. 😀

Yes, it is more that way round. The One Wall project creates several giant murals each year, and all intended to brighten areas of the city that need it

Oh, wow! What an absolute stunner, Debs. You would want to take that one with you. An image for the living room wall, perhaps? 🙂 🙂

Thanks for this. I’ve not come across Ricky Lee Gordon before so I looked him up. Sadly, he’s got nothing near at hand, has he? I love the tremendous scale he seems to favour.

No, I couldn’t see anything handy, unfortunately. But he’s open to commissions if you’ve got a large wall you’d like decorated, Margaret 🙂

I’m speechless. I guess beautiful art does that and your photos captured its magic so well. There were so many perspectives to choose from and each one was a winner. Fantastic!
